Phone stories: Thunder roads

Oh 2017, what a crazy one you’ve been. I’ve just come back from a three-week road trip through Canada and the US and finally find the time to go through some of the photos I took in the last few months. I feel like I may have been in a creative hole for a while but I think that was mainly due to the fact that I left little to no time for breaks in between… things. That is now changing, I have an incredibly quiet December ahead of me and couldn’t be happier to finally be able to reflect a little on the past year and on everything that’s ahead. You’ll definitely hear from me before the year ends, there are so many cool photo series and little snippets that deserve to be shared! But first up, here’s an Insta round-up of the last few months…

I’d always choose you

My two dear friends Kristin and Filip got married in Stavanger, Norway earlier this spring and I had the privilege of capturing them saying yes and celebrating the day with their friends and family. I was pretty much the only non-Norwegian speaking person there so I didn’t understand much of the words but actions are often louder than words (duh), so this time round I got the idea by just observing people. My camera gave me the perfect excuse to do just that.

Waking up to the Northern Lights in Iceland

It’ll be like this: You’ll sit in a hot tub under the starry sky that night and talk about the months and years and dreams to come before cuddling up in that wooden room in the attic. That night someone will wake you up just before midnight and say, “Err, Northern Lights!” two hours before you leave for the airport, and you’ll throw a scarf and jacket over your pyjamas, clumsily walk down the stairs and maybe swear a little.

Exhibition in Frankfurt: “Drei Millionen”

It has been a crazy four years since I last arranged my photos on a wall that wasn’t my own. So I’m suitably nervous and excited to tell you that I have the great privilege to exhibit a personal portrait series in Frankfurt, Germany, next weekend. It’s called “Drei Millionen” and may or may not be a teeny tiny bit inspired by this song here. Don’t worry if you can’t be there, I will show you the portraits in more detail very soon, until then below is a little peek. And I you can be there, here are the details.

Soft skin

My friend Anne is a mind-blowingly beautiful human being, inside and out. We’ve grown up just 20 miles from each other in western Germany but somehow only really started hanging out in Berlin. Unbelievable, I know. She’s an actress and I’ve been trying to convince her to maybe, perhaps, pretty please, think about modelling too because her eyes tell so many stories. Her mouth also says very wise things about life that always either inspire or calm me down. Thanks for that, girl. Anyway, Anne and I finally got up to that long-awaited shoot on a hazy Berlin Saturday in what still feels like winter – and here’s the result.

Wandering and wondering in Istanbul

Istanbul is a paradise for photographers, for musicians, for idealists, for foodies – and probably for you too. I had the pleasure of spending three very full and exciting days there last week with a friend from my old uni, and as it happened, we got a great feel for what it’s like being local there, and what fears and struggles life brings about in Turkey at the moment.

+++ Hello relaunch +++

Chances are you’ve seen this already: I’ve made the blog look a bit more like a product of 2014 and added lots of exciting photo and journalism content. And as my days are somehow a little more structured (and by that I mean looong) right now, this little space is gonna serve as a portfolio more than a diary for a while.
